1979 - 1980 onwards, I used to go to a shop at the top of Union street and one at the top end of Colston street. Just wondered if any of you out there could remember the names. There was also one in the Arcade where I got a proper flight jacket. I know Mr. Taylor probably spent all his hard earned in Paradise Garage what was the shoe shop next to it called ??

No mate-Paradise Garage came much later!!
The answere you want are; Heroes in Union Street Out of Order at top of Colston Street and it was Rodney Thomas in the arcade.
Of course none were a patch on Melanddi or The Cavern!
Appologies for Paintworks but no kiddy cover.

I remember buying a Ben Shermen in a mens clothes shop down the Gloucester Road,Fairisle/Brutus(black)/Tonics in the Arcade. Crombie from Austins, how about stacked heals and Oxford bags? All worn on a Saturday afternoon in the Locarno, early 70s so not old enough for the night.Great times.

Oh! happy happy revival days.....I could shed a tear. The Cavern was microscopic in size BUT supplied suits to The Jam. Unfortunately none of us twigged that they originally were theatrical outfitters...safe to say bespoke they were not. Still got a Buckler (as in Rick) jacket, god knows how its lasted. Shelleys was the place for real Jam shoes, and as I recall Melanddi bowlers were unfortunately real bowlers....one down pour and the soles were like sponges. As for Brizzle.....Browns for your M51 (£20) Oh happy days. PS Anyone remember the Bristol Unicorns? used to all have the most amazing Bristol coat of arms painted on backs of parkas and wound spend Saturdays having sport with the punks outside of Virgin (now an olive shop)

Hero's are responsible for some dreadful boating blazers I wore, and Out of order was where I got a 'Crombie' from. Spent some time in the place in the Arcade ( I knew the girl who worked there) . The place I remember on Carnaby was huge ( or seemed so ) with racks of quality gear, ( that should be gear of a certain quality ). Never got into clubs too much but we met at the C0ck of the north the Black Swan and the Jolly Cobbler. As the guys I knew lost touch after I left college, I drifted more toward football and then spent all my money in John Anthony and sports wear shops, which were completely different from nowadays and harder to find your Fila,Tacchini , Armani and Hugo Boss. " my name is Mike and I was a label junkie " ;D

There was a shop in Union Street called 'Heroes' was that it? sold tonic suits of which I had a very nice Blue/gold one late 79 !! I know the shop on Colston Street you were talking about it was called 'Out of Order' I seem to remember , sold good quality crombies, tonic trousers and wasn't a bad shop, I bought a crombie on the day The Jam played one of their two dates at Bath Pavillion late 79, think it was December, terrible venue, a lot of trouble and it was absolutely rammed in there, The Vapours supported, the one in the arcade had a steep spiral staircase I again seem to remember, the name escapes me at the moment, had a very camp sales assistant with glasses, remember him? !!
