...................the above picture clearly shows the effects of spending a whole weekend in the presence of the Friday Club people, talking about 1's and 2's, Indian, Italian, Spanish, MA1's (MIL J 8279 or most recent J 8279F), grey (L07032) or black rubber stand feet, perfect percentage mix of oil/fuel, whether the A34/M3/A33 route was preferable or not etc etc etc
Now had we spent the whole weekend talking about shoes and bags, it would have been a very different picture!

Right, hopefully after getting my head around putting pics on here, it's time to "come out" with the Summer/Autumn/Winter project. Seems like it's gone on forever. Firstly I know it's not going to be met with universal acceptance, but hey sometimes a '65 Vespa just looks proper like this, and also I like being cruel to the kids. So here it is. First up, after the discovery that the original engine had been built by someone you wouldn't let loose on a kids pushbike, and contained a somewhat alarming level of "liquid metal". it was; New cases, ported to the 210cc kit. A new "cut" race crank, as the original had a tapper as rough as a badgers arse. New kick start quadrant (one that wasn't bent) and lever. New bearings and seals, coil, and basically everything else the list goes on and on.. Amazingly the gearbox was OK! Once I'd depleted the world supply of gaskets, it was on to the rest of the bike which with the exception of a few "issues" like now the throttle actually hits a stop, was ok. All the bolt on stuff was stripped modified so it fitted proper and rechromed, rear floridas had new plastics made up. lights fitted and wires hid. (not that that would interest any of you lot ) Bits rechromed by "Custom metal polishers" in Portsmouth, recommended by Allstyles and long wait but good. At the end of the day, all the difficult stuff (original porting, head reprofilling, and body work were top job, but then that was all subbed out!). So why chuck it all together? Lets call a spade a spade here and say that the people who originally built this scoot at the original cost are a bunch of cowboys. consequently no longer trading, but most of you know them!! STAY WELL CLEAR in whatever incarnation they reappear (and they will) We've all been into scoots for a long time so I think we should be able to pass honest comment on the quality of service offered by fly by nites, and I just have. Still all's well that ends well. PS Mr W, The original state of the scoot was in NO way your responsibility, you weren't to know. PPS yes that jaunty fellow is sporting a genuine (early, Talon zipped) M51. Just thought you'd all appreciate that! Moderism-it's the bastion of the young!!!! Can I still come out to play?

Guess I'd best get used the taste of tea hut beverages then. Tum diddly dee, it's the tea hut life for me!!!!!
Lesson learnt and top tip-If you direct exhaust gases through the exhaust as opposed to out of the barrel stub manifold and all over the barrel the 2 stroke engine enjoys a vast performance increase. Bear that in mind kids.

good pictures Dave. Got to be impressed with your attention to detail and the way you sorted the problems out. Looking forward to all the scooters getting out together,Mike should have his s3 running again soon . By the spring Jims S1should be finished and Burn should have S2 on the road. Tall Paul is rebuilding his SX 200 engine. Any details Paul? Should be a good selection of interesting scooters

Got to agree with you Dave T, and i can confirm what T Dave`s said. We have spent many a moment at work and in T Dave's garage deliberating over the original engine.....JUNK. Anyway all sorted now and a scooter for others to be judged by. Not enough trinkets to be a tea hut contender.

Jim, it was quite quick, then I thought I know I'll way it down with a ton of scrap!! Cheers Burn, as you know a little tasteful reserve was attempted to be shown, however it's all too late and I've come to terms with a life of cottageing........... um sorry I meant Tea hutting.

Well all this scooter work in various garages during the next few months is very good, - why I might even think about race tuning my, err, beast at some point (or perhaps cleaning it....... or even seeing it...sometime... ) And - although going off the thread a little here (sorry Dave) I was thinking about what makes the perfect garage to tinker about in, and its a mix of allsorts of garages really.... Mike Jakes garage - for the double doors, low rental charges and the way a cup of tea arrives every 30 minutes or so... Dave T's garage - for the boxes of rare wonders that lurk everywhere.......the friendliness.........(the teas nice too) Jimmy Millers garage - for its sheer size (his is bigger than yours Mike) and the music on tap and the rare original tasteful cutlery and Burns garage.......which is instantly available in mobile formatt to get lazy scooterists out of trouble when their MOT is due cheers Dave. ...then again I havent got one so anything would be a bonus really!

well 'Winter in the shed' really took engine out saturday, stripped , almost a sorry sight, just the mounts and barrell studs to come out now. got the crank out of the box yesterday have sent me TV instead of GP 116mm stroke (for Mugello 225) oh well wasnt ready to fit yet anyway. Going to give the casing a polish up, never found a successful way of doing this. Paul Btw any comments on the Tutti Lambretta mounts, is that the ones with a solid mount on the flywheel side.?
